García Sola is an artificial reservoir on the Guadiana river in Extremadura, Spain. Two bathing zones are designated: Valmayor-Puerto Peña in Talarrubias and Peloche in Herrera del Duque. Both feature concrete beaches and are situated in a landscape of cork and holm oak dehesas with Mediterranean vegetation. The reservoir has a capacity of 554 cubic hectometers and is surrounded by rugged natural terrain.

Water

The García Sola reservoir is located on the Guadiana river. It is a monomictic, siliceous water body in non-humid zones belonging to low-order main river sections. The reservoir has a capacity of 554 cubic hectometers and a catchment area of 1,384 square kilometers. The dam is 65 meters high and 245 meters long. The bedbed consists of concrete in both bathing zones.

Location

Valmayor zone: Located in Talarrubias municipality. Access via N-430 at km 167; turn right at the roundabout, travel 2 km, turn right at beach access sign, cross over the dam to reach parking. Peloche zone: Located in Herrera del Duque municipality. Access via N-430 at km 167; proceed to Peloche village and follow signs to the natural beach promenade (BA-138); the artificial bathing zone is beyond. Both zones have parking available.

Facilities

Valmayor zone: parking, informational signs, picnic areas, trash bins, showers, dock, recreational equipment, domestic animal access permitted, garbage collection every two days, bar/restaurant (under construction). Peloche zone: parking, informational signs, picnic areas, trash bins, showers, dock, recreational zone, fountains, bar/restaurant, daily garbage collection, no domestic animal access.
