Water
The Orellana Reservoir is situated on the Guadiana River in the Guadiana River Basin. It is a monomictic, siliceous water body in a non-humid zone. The reservoir has a storage capacity of 808 cubic hectometres. The substrate is composed of siliceous rocks, primarily slate. The reservoir bed near the bathing beach consists of concrete (2 m) transitioning to fine and medium sands (0.06-2 mm). The bathing beaches are concrete surfaces.
Location
Orellana la Vieja bathing area is located south of the town of Orellana la Vieja. Access is via directions to 'Hospedería embalse de Orellana' and 'Playa Costa Dulce de Orellana la Vieja', followed by a perimeter road on a small peninsula. Campanario bathing area is located north of Campanario, adjacent to the dam wall. Access from Campanario is via road EX115 toward Orellana la Vieja, then right toward the dam wall. From Orellana town, also use road EX115. Both areas have parking facilities.

Campanario: parking, information signs, bar/restaurant, toilets, bins, daily rubbish collection, drinking fountains, estimated weekend bathers: 1000; weekday bathers: 300. No rescue posts, no showers, no picnic areas, no information bins, no audit room, no domestic animal access.
