The Orellana Reservoir comprises two bathing zones in Extremadura, Spain: Orellana la Vieja located south of the town of Orellana la Vieja, and Campanario located north of the town of Campanario near the dam wall. Both are situated on the Guadiana River in a semi-arid landscape region between the Siberia Extremeña and La Serena comarcas. The reservoir is the third largest on the Guadiana and has storage capacity of 808 cubic hectometres, recognized since 1992 as a Ramsar wetland site of international importance for waterbirds. The bathing areas feature concrete beaches and are popular for recreation, fishing, and water activities.

Embalse de Orellana (Orellana Reservoir) on the Guadiana River. Monomictic siliceous water body in a non-humid zone. Storage capacity 808 cubic hectometres. Rocky substrate composed of siliceous rocks, primarily slate. The bedding consists of concrete in the beach entrance (2 metres) and fine to medium sand (0.06–2 millimetres).

Location

Orellana la Vieja bathing zone: south of Orellana la Vieja town, accessed via road towards Hospedería Embalse de Orellana and Playa Costa Dulce, with a perimetral road on the peninsula. Campanario bathing zone: north of Campanario town via road EX115 towards Orellana la Vieja, turning right at dam signals. Both locations have parking available. Altitude approximately 320–323 metres.

Orellana la Vieja zone: parking, lifeguard posts, rescue services, information signs, bar/restaurant, picnic areas, waste bins, toilets, showers, boat ramp, recreational zone, auditorium, water fountains, daily rubbish collection, sanitation connection. Campanario zone: parking, information signs, bar/restaurant, toilets, waste containers, daily rubbish collection. Estimated visitors: Orellana la Vieja 2000 weekend/500 weekday; Campanario 1000 weekend/300 weekday. No domestic animals allowed at either location.
