Ricobayo Reservoir is a hydroelectric dam-controlled water body located in the municipality of Muelas del Pan in Zamora Province, Castilla y León, Spain. The bathing area sits at an altitude of 684 metres on a rocky substrate composed of granite. The reservoir has a surface area of 5,855 hectares and a volume of 1,200 cubic hectometres. The beach features sandy substrate with stone blocks, shaded by natural and replanted trees, and a herbaceous vegetation community.

Water

Reservoir on the Esla River in the Duero River basin. Surface area: 5,855 hectares. Volume: 1,200 cubic hectometres. Maximum normal water level elevation: 684 metres. Spillway capacity: 775 cubic metres per second. Substrate composed of granite bedrock. Bed material: sand. Fish fauna includes barbel, boga, pike, and carp.

Location

Municipality of Muelas del Pan, Zamora Province, Spain. Access via road ZA-L-3216 from Muelas del Pan towards Ricobayo, then via the road to Alcañices which leads directly to the bathing area. Parking available.

Facilities

Parking, informational signage, bar/restaurant, picnic areas, waste bins, dock, recreational zone, drinking water fountains. No lifeguards, no toilets, no showers, no swimming pools, no domestic animal access.

Water Quality

Water quality classification according to Royal Decree 1341/2007 shows conformity with guideline values for bathing water quality. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations measured during 2009 bathing season remained within acceptable limits. Historical data from 2003-2009 indicates the water conformed to imperative values in recent years.
