Plage Face RD 241 is a bathing beach located in the commune of Saint-Jean-le-Thomas in Normandy, France. The beach was subject to closure and reopening procedures related to water quality concerns. A vulnerability profile was developed between 2013 and 2016 to assess contamination risks and identify pollution sources affecting the bathing area.

Location

Saint-Jean-le-Thomas commune, along Road RD 241 (Route Départementale 241).

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted following EU Directive 2006/7/CEE standards. Monitoring focused on faecal contamination markers. The beach was closed and subsequently reopened, with sanitary controls conducted on bathing waters and shellfish production zones.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include domestic wastewater discharges, non-collective sanitation systems, rainwater runoff, agricultural activities (livestock grazing, erosion), port operations, camping facilities, animal presence on the tidal flat, and resuspension of sediments. Rivers in Mont Saint-Michel Bay were assessed for pollution impact.
