Fiumaretta Est is a sandy and pebbly beach located at the mouth of the Magra River in Sarzana, Liguria. The surrounding area is used for agriculture and cattle farming. The beach is part of a series of equipped beaches belonging to the municipality of Sarzana, extending eastward from the river mouth. The bathing water has been classified as excellent based on monitoring from 2008 to 2011.

Coastal water body at the mouth of the Magra River. Area of 1.315 square kilometres. The Magra River basin is the hydrographic basin.

Location

Sarzana, La Spezia province, Liguria region. The bathing area is located east of the Magra River mouth. Contact: Municipality of Sarzana, Piazza Matteotti 1, telephone 01876141.

First aid and rescue services available. Disabled facilities. Toilet facilities. Food and beverage services. Animals are permitted access to the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal treatment plants, Imhoff tanks, or drainage conduits are present. During heavy rainfall, meteoric water from inter-farm ditches in the agricultural zone named Società Tenuta di Mari is discharged through the Fosso degli Stagni.

Risks

The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions. There have been no cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation in the past four years.
