Classification: Excellent. A ban on bathing is in place at the mouth of Torrente Minissale for 75 metres. Two wastewater treatment plants discharge into the Alcantara river: one at c.da Imperio using a biodisk system (coordinates 37.8156 N, 15.2468 E) and one at fraz. Pasteria using an activated sludge process (coordinates 37.803232 N, 15.231072 E). Pollution sources include discharges from other municipalities on the Alcantara river and adjacent coastal areas.

Possible short-duration pollution events from accidental treatment plant failures, overflow, urban and livestock runoff, and discharges from adjacent municipalities.
