Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. A swimming ban is in place at the mouth of Torrente Minissale extending 75 meters from the discharge point. Two wastewater treatment plants serve the area: one using biodisks at c.da Imperio (coordinates 37.8156 N, 15.2468 E) discharging to the Alcantara River, and another using activated sludge recirculation at Pasteria (coordinates 37.803232 N, 15.231072 E). Pollution sources include wastewater discharges from other municipalities on the Alcantara River and adjacent coastal areas. No short-duration pollution events occurred in the past four years.
