Bernalda Lido is a bathing area located on the Basilicata coast in the province of Matera, spanning from the Basento river to the border with the Puglia region. The beach is characterized by three distinct nuclei: Basento, Centro, and Bradano, all situated on the pine forest hillside backed by state-owned forest areas. The area received the Blue Flag international recognition in 2018.

Coastal bathing area on the Tyrrhenian Sea, extending from the Basento river to the Puglia regional border.

Location

Bernalda, province of Matera, Basilicata region. The sampling point is located in the northern zone nearest to the mouth of the Bradano river at coordinates 40.389952 -16.861580. The bathing area extends from coordinates 40.386104 -16.859183 to 40.390528 -16.861602.

Season

Official bathing season: 1 May to 30 September. Monitoring period: 1 April to 30 September with monthly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Blue Flag awarded in 2018. No seasonal bathing bans were in effect for the 2020 bathing season.

Risks

Non-bathing zone exists at the mouth of the Bradano river, extending 150 meters from the northern margin with a width of 100 meters in the axis of the river mouth.
