Bernalda Lido is a bathing area in the Basilicata region comprising three beach nuclei: Basento, Centro, and Bradano. The beaches are located behind a pine forest on state-owned forest land. The area extends from the Basento river to the border with the Puglia region. In 2018, the area received the international Blue Flag certification.

Coastal bathing area along the Ionian Sea in southern Italy, encompassing three beach nuclei.

Location

Bernalda, province of Matera, Basilicata region. The sampling point is located in the southern zone closest to the mouth of the Bradano river (coordinates 40.381186 -16.855909). The bathing area boundaries extend from 40.379855 -16.854664 to 40.386104 -16.859183.

Season

Official bathing season: 1 May to 30 September. Monitoring period: 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification period: 2017-2020. Monitoring frequency: monthly. No bathing bans were in effect during the 2020 bathing season. Blue Flag certification awarded in 2018.

Risks

Non-bathing zone present at the mouth of the Bradano river, extending 150 meters south with a width of 100 meters along the river outlet axis.
