Location

Located in Lesina, province of Foggia, Puglia region, Italy. The site is part of the Lesina Lagoon between La Punta and Fiume Lauro/Foce Schiapparo.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No direct wastewater discharges to sea are present. Canal outlets represent a potential source of pollution that could affect bathing water quality. During heavy precipitation, increased water flow through canals could transport potential wastewater to sea.

Risks

Canal outlets (foce di canali) represent the main identified potential pollution source. During intense precipitation events, increased canal discharge could transport wastewater to sea. No algal blooms or cyanobacterial proliferation has been documented. No toxic algal species proliferation has been detected.
