June 28 to August 31, 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 follows Decreto-Lei 135/09. Sampling frequency is once per week. Microbiological indicators exceeded quality standards on 07/15/2024 and 07/22/2024, resulting in bathing prohibitions between 07/17–07/19 and 07/23–07/26. Incidents followed intense rainfall events. Diffuse pollution sources from solid waste on the beach, surface runoff, high user numbers, and an upstream wastewater pumping station affect water quality.

Risks

Potential sources of microbiological pollution include solid waste from beach activities, surface runoff, high numbers of users, and a wastewater pumping station located upstream. Cyanobacteria and macroalgae have a likely potential for proliferation.
