Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 of June 3rd, amended by Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012 of May 23rd. Sampling is conducted every two weeks. A short-term pollution event occurred between 17 July 2025 and 19 July 2025, when bathing was prohibited following microbiological indicator values that did not meet quality standards in a sample from 15 July 2025. In bathing season 2024, bathing was advised against or prohibited for 2 days due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Solid waste from beach activities, surface runoff, and high user numbers are identified as potential microbiological pollution sources. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely; macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential are not specified.
