Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 as amended. Microbiological sampling occurs once per week. A short-term pollution event occurred on 15 July 2024 with non-compliant microbiological indicators, leading to a bathing prohibition from 17–19 July. The event was attributed to intense rainfall and diffuse pollution sources. Two days of bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Potential microbiological pollution sources include solid waste from beach activities, surface runoff, and high numbers of users. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton have likely potential for proliferation.
