Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Gelūžės Lake is a bathing water located in Vilnius, Lithuania, within the Neris minor tributaries basin of the Neman River basin. The beach has a natural shoreline composed of sand and grass, with an average depth of 1.30 metres and a maximum depth of 2.5 metres. The beach stretches 70 metres and can accommodate approximately 400 visitors during peak season with favorable weather conditions. Water quality has met excellent standards from 2022 to 2024.

Lake. Average depth: 1.30 metres. Maximum depth: 2.5 metres. Beach length: 70 metres. Natural shoreline with sand and sparse grass. Underwater vegetation is sparse. Average annual rainfall in the basin: 674 mm.

Location

Vilnius city municipality, Lithuania. The monitoring coordinates are X=54.4010, Y=25.1596. Residential buildings are located nearby.

Facilities

1 dock, 2 changing cabins, children's playground, bicycle racks, grills, picnic tables (including tables adapted for disabled persons with one bench), small library, outdoor fitness equipment, information signs, rescue station, and first aid supplies. 3 bio-toilets. No showers. Pets are prohibited on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2022–2024). The bathing water meets excellent quality requirements. Phosphorus and nitrogen levels were not tested; blue-green algae visual monitoring was conducted. No spread of blue-green algae, large algae, or marine phytoplankton has been observed. Eutrophication impact on water quality could result from natural or human activity.

Risks

Short-term pollution is possible during heavy rainfall; pollution disappears within 1–2 days after rain ends. Possible momentary water contamination may occur due to irresponsible human behavior. No systematic pollution sources exist in the impact zone.
