Vokės River beach in Grigiškės is a public bathing area located in Vilnius, Lithuania. The beach features a natural shoreline covered with sand and meadow vegetation. The bathing area is approximately 75 metres long with an average water depth of 1.2 metres and a maximum depth of 1.90 metres. The beach and its shoreline are semi-natural, consisting of sand, grass, trees, and sparse underwater vegetation that is regularly cleared during the swimming season. The bathing water is classified as a new bathing area that has not yet been evaluated.

Water

Vokė River, a tributary of the Neries River (part of the Nemunas River basin). Beach length approximately 75 metres. Average water depth 1.2 metres. Maximum water depth 1.90 metres. Water body identification code 12010510. Part of the Neries sub-basin (LT111200000) within the Nemunas river basin district (LT1100).

Location

Vilnius city municipality, Vilnius district, Lithuania. Coordinates: 54.6648°N, 25.0929°E. Maximum capacity of approximately 400 visitors during peak season.

Facilities

Two changing cabins, lifeguard post, first aid equipment, barbecue areas, picnic tables with 2 benches, picnic tables adapted for disabled persons with 1 bench, children's playground, volleyball court, outdoor fitness equipment, information signs. Toilets: 3 bio-toilets. No showers. Waste management: 18 waste bins of 0.75 cubic metres capacity emptied daily, 1.1 cubic metre mixed waste collection containers, and waste sorting containers.

Water Quality

The bathing water has not been evaluated as this is a new bathing area. Classification system uses: excellent quality, good quality, satisfactory quality, and poor quality designations. Water quality characteristics will be updated if quality changes from excellent to good, satisfactory, or poor. Blue algae visual monitoring has been conducted; no cyanobacteria blooms have been detected.

Risks

Possible temporary water pollution may occur during heavy rainfall, after which contamination typically disappears within 1 to 2 days. No point-source, diffuse, or upstream surface water pollution sources have been identified in the impact zone. Potential momentary water contamination is possible due to irresponsible human behaviour.
