Lithuania River 1 - Excellent

Valakupių II is a public bathing beach on the Neris River in Vilnius, Lithuania. The beach is approximately 600 metres long with a natural shoreline composed of sand and reeds in places. The beach structure is semi-natural, featuring sand, reeds, trees, and sparse underwater vegetation that is regularly cleared during the swimming season. Water quality has consistently met excellent standards from 2019 to 2024 in accordance with Directive 2006/7/EC.

Water

The Neris River, a tributary of the Nemuno river basin. Average water depth is 1.0 metre, with a maximum depth of 2.5 metres. The water body is classified as Type 5 and is part of the Neris sub-basin (code LT111200000) within the Nemuno river basin district (code LT1100).

Location

Located in Vilnius city municipality, Vilnius district, Lithuania. The bathing water monitoring point coordinates are X=54.7304, Y=25.2978.

Facilities

Mobile pier, volleyball and tennis courts, children's play area, 4 changing cabins, rescue point with first aid equipment, drinking water fountain, 10-seat toilets, 40 waste bins of 0.1 cubic metre capacity cleaned daily, 3 mixed waste containers of 1.1 cubic metre capacity, 3 waste sorting containers of 1.1 cubic metre capacity.

Season

Monitoring occurs from June to September annually.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent from 2019 to 2024. The water body has medium ecological status and is classified as a risk water body. Monitoring data indicate that BDS7 concentration does not meet good ecological status requirements. Concentrations of hazardous or priority hazardous substances exceeding maximum permitted levels have been detected. No short-term pollution events were recorded over the past 5 years.

Risks

Short-term pollution is possible during heavy rainfall, with pollution disappearing within 1–2 days after rain ceases. Blue-green algae proliferation has not been observed. Domestic animals are prohibited on the beach.
