Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Germanto ežero paplūdimys (Germanto Lake Beach) is a public bathing area located in Telšiai district, Lithuania. The beach features a natural shoreline with sand substrate and a panoramic view from the water side. The bathing area has maintained excellent water quality from 2018 to 2024 according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB standards. The beach can accommodate approximately 400 visitors during peak season under favorable weather conditions.

Water

Germanto Lake is a natural lake with Type 1 lake morphology. Average water depth: 1.20 m. Maximum water depth: 2.0 m. The lake has good ecological status. Precipitation in the catchment area: 864 mm annually, with highest precipitation in August and lowest in May. Rain in the catchment and impact zone: 702.8 mm.

Facilities

Two outdoor toilets. Two waste collection containers (emptied twice weekly during summer season, with waste transported to Jerubaičiai landfill). Volleyball court available. Dogs are prohibited on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (puiki kokybė) from 2018 to 2024. Phosphorus and nitrogen levels were not analyzed; water transparency was monitored. No studies on cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton were conducted. The water body belongs to the Venta River Basin (Ventos upės baseinas) with identification code LT2300.

Risks

Short-term pollution is possible during heavy rain; pollution typically disappears within 1–2 days after rain ceases. Occasional contamination is possible due to irresponsible human actions. No concentrated pollution sources, dispersed pollution sources, or upstream surface water bodies that could be pollution sources are present in the impact zone.
