Grado - Isola Volpera is a sandy beach located on an island in the Marano and Grado lagoon area in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The bathing water is classified as transitional water. The beach is accompanied by a campground facility. Water quality has been rated as excellent based on monitoring data from 2015–2018, with no significant variations observed during those bathing seasons.

Transitional water body in the lagoon area of Marano and Grado. The bathing area covers approximately 0.896 km. The water body is the Ara Storta, fed by tributaries of the Marano and Grado lagoon system.

Location

Located in Grado, Gorizia province, Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The bathing area is centred at coordinates 45.722389°N, 13.382414°E. The area extends approximately 0.896 km. Grado is accessible via the Comune di Grado municipal offices at Piazza Biagio Marin 4, 34073 Grado.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia Coli at the 90th percentile: 24 CFU/100 ml; at the 95th percentile: 29 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal Enterococci at the 90th percentile: 18 CFU/100 ml; at the 95th percentile: 27 CFU/100 ml. No significant variations in quality status were observed during the 2015–2018 bathing seasons. No pollution events were recorded during 2015–2018.

Risks

Sporadic pollution events may occur under particular meteorological and marine conditions preceding sampling days, including intense rainfall, strong winds, and increased river flows. These conditions can cause poor water exchange in areas near shore due to the complexity of the lagoon hydrographic network and high tides. Pollutants may originate from urban runoff and potentially from the Natissa River to the northwest. No cyanobacterial proliferation or toxic algal species have been detected. No sustained eutrophic phenomena driven by cyanobacteria have been reported.
