Großer Däbersee is a natural lake located 45 km east of Berlin city centre in the Märkische Schweiz nature park. The lake was formed during the last ice age and has an area of 19.7 hectares with a maximum depth of 16 metres and mean depth of 6 metres. The lake consists of two basins separated by a dam; the smaller western basin is partially overgrown with reeds and water lilies. Water transparency at the bathing site ranges from 1.5 to 3.0 metres with a mean of 2.6 metres, indicating improved water quality in recent years.

Water

Natural freshwater lake with surface area of 19.7 hectares. Maximum depth 16 metres, mean depth 6 metres. Water level fluctuations of 0.5 metres. Water exchange time of 1.2 years. Freshwater with salinity less than 0.5 ppt. Temperature range from 10.7 to 24.6 degrees Celsius (mean 20.6 degrees). pH range 7.5 to 8.0 (mean 7.8). The lake is fed by the Kreuzfließ stream flowing from east to west.

Location

Located in Waldsieversdorf, Märkisch-Oderland district, Brandenburg, 45 kilometres east of Berlin. The bathing site is at the Volksbad (public pool) facility in Waldsieversdorf. A camping park is located near the lake. In summer, the site is accessible via the Müncheberg-Buckow narrow-gauge railway.

Volksbad (public bathing facility) with 40-metre beach. Camping facilities available. Waldsieversdorf town services nearby. Access to observation tower ('Himmelsleiter' hiking trail leading to water tower with viewpoint).

Season

Monitoring conducted fortnightly (every four weeks) during bathing season in accordance with Brandenburg bathing water regulations. No specific season dates provided.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (ausgezeichnet) for all monitoring periods 2016–2024. Escherichia coli: 15 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile, 2020–2024). Intestinal enterococci: 34–38 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile, 2020–2024). No exceedances of microbiological parameters recorded. No cyanobacterial blooms observed during bathing seasons. Water condition has improved significantly since the 1990s.
