Grosser Klobichsee Muenchehofe

Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

The Großer Klobichsee is a natural lake located approximately 50 km east of central Berlin in the Märkische Schweiz nature park, within the morainic landscape of the Buckow Hills and Kettle Lakes region. The lake was formed during the last glacial advance when glacial meltwater filled depressions left by buried dead ice blocks. The triangular basin covers 74 hectares with a maximum depth of 10.5 meters and is nearly completely forested along its shores, with reed belts fringing much of the waterline. The lake has experienced significant water quality improvement since the 1990s following upgraded wastewater treatment at a holiday resort, with summer water transparency now ranging from 1 to 3 meters.
