Hjarnø Odde

Hjarnø Odde is a bathing spot located on the island of Hjarnø off the coast of Snaptun in Hedensted Municipality, in the southern part of Horsens Fjord. The beach features a 5–10 metre wide sandy strand with a rest area and beach meadow. Access to the bathing area is only possible on foot from the church by crossing the lagoon via a small bridge. The seabed consists of fine sand without stones, and the water depth increases rapidly on the outer side of the point.

Water

Horsens Fjord is a medium-sized fjord with a surface area of 77.5 square kilometres and a water volume of 0.132 cubic kilometres. The mean water residence time in the fjord during summer is approximately 18 days. The seabed at Hjarnø Odde consists of sand without stones, becoming rapidly deeper on the outer side of the point. Water salinity ranges from 16–24 psu. Summer water temperature in the bathing areas ranges from 14–20 degrees Celsius.

Location

Hjarnø Odde is located 500 metres southeast of the harbour, after the church. The bathing area is on the island of Hjarnø, which lies off Snaptun on the east coast of Jutland. Parking is available at the church.

Bathing water monitoring occurs throughout the entire bathing season.

The bathing water at Hjarnø Odde is classified as excellent, the highest bathing water quality classification. This classification is based on data from the previous four years of bathing water analyses.

Risks

Risk of seaweed washup in the bathing area during heavy weather and onshore winds. Risk of blue-green algae blooms during warm, calm periods with easterly winds from the Baltic Sea. Risk of general algal blooms during periods with abundant light, nutrients, warmth, and relatively calm weather.
