Hotel Roma is a bathing beach in Senigallia with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone-flint sand. The beach slopes at an average gradient of 3% and extends 1200 m in length and 60 m in width. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements and tourist facilities with a railway line passing through. The beach accommodates approximately 4000 bathers at peak daily capacity during high season.

Coastal marine water. Beach width: 60 m; beach length: 1200 m. Average distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit): 80 m. Astronomical tidal range: 30–50 cm. Drainage basin: Litorale tra Misa e Fosso Rubiano.

Location

Senigallia, Ancona province, Marche region, Italy. The beach is part of the Senigallia_Ancona water body.

Facilities

Bars, restaurants, sanitary facilities, camping, and bathing establishments. Animals not permitted.

Water Quality

Classification: Category C, Quality Class E. Escherichia coli monitoring data from 2010 ranged from below detection limit to 300 CFU/100 ml. Pollution sources identified include wastewater treatment discharge from the Misa river outlet and multiple outfalls from natural drainage channels (Fosso Morignano, Fosso Ciarnin, Fosso Hotel Diana) with overflow discharge systems. The wastewater treatment plant has capacity for 20,000 m³/day or 100,000 equivalent inhabitants and serves approximately 39,300 urban equivalent inhabitants plus 770 from industrial activities.

Risks

Multiple combined sewer overflow discharge points during heavy rainfall events. Fitoplankton blooms documented, including non-toxic Fibrocapsa japonica proliferation in August 2009 causing brownish-red discoloration and oily water consistency. Historical oil spill from API Refinery in April 2007 resulted in temporary bathing closure due to massive pollution.
