Jean Blanc is a natural beach bathing site located in Le Lavandou on the Mediterranean coast. The beach achieved an Excellent classification according to the 2006 European bathing water directive in the 2022 monitoring season. The site experiences significant summer tourism with approximately 700 users per day. Water quality is generally good, with pollution events being rare and typically short-lived, occurring primarily during heavy rainfall episodes.

Le Lavandou, Var department, France. Infrastructure including restaurants and parking facilities are located near the beach, with parking approximately 50 metres from the bathing zone and restaurants situated approximately 10 metres away.

Water Quality

Excellent classification according to the 2006 European bathing water directive (2022 monitoring season). Water quality is generally good with rare and short-lived pollution events. Potential pollution sources include wastewater treatment discharge (STEP Cavalière), stormwater runoff containing agricultural products and hydrocarbures, boat mooring activities, and beach user activities. Sewage overflow from the wastewater pumping station poses a risk of faecal matter pollution during network overload caused by malfunction or heavy rainfall episodes, with potential pollution lasting several days.

Risk of faecal matter pollution and macrodebris from stormwater runoff during heavy rainfall episodes. Sewage pumping station overflow risk during network overload. Mooring zone presents momentary risk of faecal matter and hydrocarbon pollution. Phytoplankton (Ostreopsis, Dinophysis, Prorocentum) poses a proliferation risk due to organic matter pollution and high summer water temperatures. Parking and restaurant runoff can introduce hydrocarbures, mineral oils, and surfactants, though such pollution is brief (under 72 hours). Beach user activities present rare pollution risk.
