Lithuania River 1 - Excellent

Jūros River bathing water is located in Tauragė district in the Nemuno River basin. The beach is approximately 200 metres long with a sandy and grass shoreline. The water has an average depth of 1.2 metres and a maximum depth of 3.0 metres. Natural vegetation is present along the shore, including water plants such as reeds and sedges, with trees and shrubs on the riverbank.

River. Average annual discharge: 25.8 cubic metres per second. Average depth: 1.2 metres. Maximum depth: 3.0 metres. Beach length: approximately 200 metres. The riverbed consists of sand and grass. Average annual precipitation in the basin: 891 millimetres.

Location

Tauragė district, Lithuania. The bathing area is located in the Tauragė city municipality. Monitoring coordinates: X=55.2534, Y=22.2776.

Facilities

One toilet is available. Sports equipment, children's play areas, and beach volleyball court are provided. Waste containers and waste bins are present. Waste collection and removal are arranged by the Tauragė city municipality administration as needed.

Season

Monitoring was conducted during the bathing seasons from 2020 to 2024.

Water Quality

Water quality from 2020 to 2024 has met excellent quality requirements under Directive 2006/7/EB. Short-term pollution is possible during heavy rainfall, typically lasting 1–2 days after the rain ceases. On 31 August 2023, microbiological testing results did not meet Lithuanian hygiene standard HN 92:2018.

Risks

Short-term pollution may occur during heavy rainfall. Potential surface runoff from rainwater collection systems located upstream of the bathing area. The bathing area is located in a protected zone under the drinking water directive, but surface rainwater discharge is possible during severe weather conditions.
