Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Paršežerio lake is a bathing area located in the Varniai regional park within Lithuania's Tauragė district. The natural shoreline extends 900 meters with mixed woodland vegetation. The water has an average depth of 1.3–1.5 meters and a maximum depth of 2 meters. The beach is open to the public and can accommodate approximately 100 visitors during peak season. The water quality has consistently met excellent standards since 2018.

Water

Lake in the Ventas river basin. Coordinates: X=55.6369, Y=22.2921. Average annual precipitation in the basin is 877 mm. Average depth 1.3–1.5 meters; maximum depth 2 meters. Shoreline length 900 meters with natural vegetation including reeds, sedges, and aquatic plants. Sand and gravel layers have been added in designated swimming areas to reduce sludge.

Location

Paršežerio lake is situated in Šilalė municipality, Laukuvos seniūnija, Požerės village, in the Varniai regional park in the Tauragė district of Lithuania. Parking is available at the beach.

Facilities

Two toilets. Boat rental, basketball and volleyball courts with specialized surfaces, rest shelters, rescue station, children's play areas and zones, water fountains, parking area, sunshades. Trash bins located throughout the beach (14 units at shelters, 2 large bins at beach entrances, and collection containers at parking area). Waste collection occurs 1–2 times per week depending on temperature and visitor numbers.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (puiki kokybė). Water quality has met excellent standards from 2018 to 2024 under EU Directive 2006/7/EB. Monitoring conducted annually. Eutrophication potential noted as natural or human-activity-related. Phosphorus and nitrogen levels were not tested; water clarity observed visually.

Risks

Short-term pollution possible during heavy rainfall; pollution typically disappears within 1–2 days after rain ends. The water body has poor ecological status due to increased risk from past pollution.
