Kerdeniel Beach is located in the municipality of Ploudalmézeau in northwestern Finistère, approximately 30 kilometers north of Brest. The beach is situated between Portsall port to the south and Pointe de Penvir to the north, facing west toward the English Channel. The beach has a modest watershed of approximately 9 hectares with a gentle average slope of 2 percent. The bathing water profile was revised in April 2019 to identify pollution sources and implement management measures to protect water quality.

Coastal marine water on the English Channel. Watershed area of approximately 9 hectares. Average slope of the basin is 2 percent with a maximum elevation of 15 meters. No permanent watercourse traverses the basin.

Season

Official monitoring conducted according to the 2006/7/CE directive during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as good as of the 2013 bathing season. Monitoring shows evolution of enterococcal and E. coli concentrations from 2009 onwards. Water quality classification ranges from good to excellent over the 2009–2018 period. Contamination episodes identified linked to rainfall, seasonality, and tidal coefficient.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified including agricultural activities and collective sanitation network connections. Contamination episodes documented with impacts related to precipitation, seasonal variations, and tidal cycles.
