Pors Guen is a bathing beach located in Ploudalmézeau in Brittany, France. The beach is situated within a Natura 2000 protected area. The beach experiences Atlantic coastal conditions with significant wave heights and tidal currents. Water quality monitoring has been conducted at this site since 1994, with particular attention to microbiological indicators.

Water

Atlantic coastal bathing water. The site experiences tidal currents with maximum tidal flow occurring approximately 3 hours before and after high tide. Significant wave heights are generated by south-westerly swells and winds.

Location

Ploudalmézeau, Brittany, France. The beach is accessed via a marked pathway with informational signage regarding water quality displayed at the access point.

Water Quality

Microbiological water quality has been monitored using Escherichia coli and enterococci as indicators. Quality assessment has been conducted according to European Directive 2006/7/CE standards. Water quality classification is based on 90th and 95th percentile concentrations of bacterial indicators measured since 1994.

Risks

Storm water drainage system discharge points identified on the beach. Visible drainage systems from property walls and access pathway. Fecal contamination risk from multiple pollution sources. Rainfall events correlate with increased E. coli concentrations in bathing water.
