Kinzigsee is a bathing lake located northwest of Hanau near Langenselbold, created in the late 1970s in an excavation pit during motorway construction. The lake has a water surface area of 23.3 hectares, a maximum depth of 15.1 metres, and a mean depth of 9.1 metres. It experiences water exchange with the nearby Ruhlsee and the Kinzig river, through which it receives constant phosphorus input. A floating dividing wall 6.2 metres deep and 436 metres long separates the designated bathing area from the rest of the lake.
