Langer See near Dolgenbrodt is a lake situated approximately 12 km southeast of Königs Wusterhausen in the Dahme Lake District. It is part of the Storkow Lake Chain and belongs to the Dahme Heathland Lakes Nature Park. The lake has an area of 147 hectares with a maximum depth of 3.8 metres and is relatively shallow and well-mixed. The lake has naturally nutrient-rich waters and experiences cyanobacteria blooms during the bathing season, though it has been classified as excellent in water quality from 2016 to 2024.

Water

Natural lake covering 147 hectares. Maximum depth 3.8 metres, mean depth 2.2 metres. Water exchange time ≤30 days. Unstratified. pH range 7.57–8.11 (mean 7.8). Water temperature range 14.8–24.6 °C (mean 21 °C). Water transparency mean 0.6 metres (range 0.4–1 metre). Freshwater lake with salinity <0.5‰. Eutrophic nutrient status.

Location

Approximately 12 km southeast of Königs Wusterhausen in Brandenburg, Germany, in the Dahme Lake District. The bathing site is located at Dolgenbrodt on Langer See.

Facilities

Volleyball field and climbing frame available. Water sports permitted on the lake.

Season

Monitoring conducted via four-weekly sampling by the district health authority during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent for bathing water quality for all assessment periods 2016–2024. Microbiological monitoring shows E. coli 95-percentile values of 32–44 per 100 ml and intestinal enterococci 95-percentile values of 41–56 per 100 ml across measured periods. No individual parameter exceedances recorded. Ecological status class 3 (moderate) under Water Framework Directive. Lake experiences eutrophication and cyanobacteria blooms are frequently observed during the bathing season.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms occur occasionally during the bathing season. Risk of future cyanobacteria mass development is assessed as low to medium. Sensitive individuals are advised to avoid bathing during algal bloom events. No risk of cercarial dermatitis identified.
