Water Quality

Bacterial water quality is monitored using Escherichia coli and enterococcus indicators. Water quality classification follows European directives from 1976 and 2006. Monitoring results show evolution in bacterial concentrations. The beach has been subject to downgrading analyses due to pollution incidents.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include wastewater network discharges, stormwater runoff, overflow surges from sewage pumping stations, agricultural diffuse pollution, and accidental pollution events. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential has been assessed. Marine pollution influences have been identified. Wastewater treatment plant effluent discharge and network overflows are documented pollution sources.
