Plage du Rocher and Plage des Conches are two bathing beaches located in Longeville-sur-Mer, Vendée, in western France. These beaches form a Type 1 vulnerability profile for bathing waters. The area experiences Atlantic coastal conditions with tidal influences and varied weather patterns. The beaches serve recreational bathing purposes alongside other coastal activities.

Atlantic coastal waters. Marine environment subject to tidal currents; currents measured at 2 hours after low tide and 3 hours before low tide.

Location

Longeville-sur-Mer, Vendée department, France. The bathing area includes two adjacent beaches: Plage du Rocher and Plage des Conches.

Water Quality

Bacterial water quality for both beaches monitored from 2005 to 2010 by the regional health authority (ARS). Microbiological monitoring conducted via the REMI network. Phytoplankton and phycotoxin surveillance performed through the REPHY network. Macroalgae proliferation potential assessed. Classification framework established under current and future regulations.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified including collective sewage treatment systems with discharge points, non-collective sanitation, stormwater networks discharging directly to sea, agricultural runoff, and accidental sources related to camping vehicles. Evaluation of pollution flux under both dry and wet weather conditions (20mm rainfall per hour) and accidental event scenarios conducted.
