Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido II is a sandy-pebbly beach with free access located on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore near Castelveccana in the Lombardy region of Italy. The beach is approximately 6 metres wide and situated a few kilometres from the centre of Castelveccana and from Laveno Mombello. Water quality has been classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2019–2022. The beach is part of Lake Maggiore's water body, which is monitored for pathogenic bacteria and cyanobacteria through the Pallanza buoy system managed by CNR and ARPA.

Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore). Total water body area monitored: 0.137 km². The lake's hydrographic basin is the Ticino River.

Castelveccana, Varese province, Lombardy, Italy. The beach is located on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, a few kilometres from the centre of Castelveccana and from Laveno Mombello. Altitude: 197 metres above sea level.

Facilities

Refreshment facilities connected by pedestrian passage. Drinking fountain and shower available. No animal access permitted. Mooring facilities for small boats present.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent for the period 2019–2022. Monitoring includes testing for Escherichia coli, intestinal Enterococci, and cyanobacteria through the Pallanza buoy system (CNR and ARPA). The treatment plant (depuratore) serving Castelveccana respects discharge limits mandated by regulation. No breaches of cyanobacteria thresholds were recorded in the last three years. Seasonal algal blooms are possible.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events may result from unfavourable weather conditions, soil runoff, water pooling, and possible accidental or unauthorised discharges of sewage or polluting debris. Seasonal algal blooms are possible, potentially involving cyanobacteria species within the phytoplankton. No anomalous events have been recorded.
