Lido Trullo is a rocky coastline bathing area located in the municipality of Bari, Puglia region, in southern Italy. It is classified as a marine-coastal water body and has been rated as excellent quality for the period 2017–2020. The bathing area covers an extension of 1.69 km.

Location

Bari municipality, Puglia region, Italy. The water body is identified as Bari-S. Vito (Polignano).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No short-term pollution events recorded in the last four years. Treated wastewater from Bari East treatment plant is discharged via submarine pipeline. Main identified pollution source is the Bari Est treatment plant discharging treated effluent from civil and productive settlements.

Risks

Dinoflagellate microalgae Ostreopsis ovata blooms occur seasonally from July to September. Previous events caused deaths or stress to marine organisms (starfish, sea urchins, crabs, cephalopod molluscs). Transient illnesses in swimmers (rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, fever, dermatitis, conjunctivitis) have been recorded during high concentrations of Ostreopsis ovata, especially following heavy seas when marine aerosol formation spreads toxins through the air.
