Lago nord is a bathing water area in Castellabate with a sandy and rocky beach. The surrounding coastline features high rocky cliffs with jagged terrain to the north and lower, heavily urbanized coast to the south. A predominantly semi-natural landscape includes a sandy shoreline in the southern part of the bathing area.

Location

Castellabate, province of Salerno, Campania region. The monitoring point is located at the Torrente Lago nord (Lat 40.305545°N Long 14.946089°E).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020-2021-2022-2023). Monitoring is conducted at the Torrente Lago nord point.

Risks

Two urban wastewater treatment plants discharge into the bathing area: a biological activated sludge plant at Maroccia discharging into Vallone Valsella, and another at Ogliastro Marina discharging into Vallone Arena. The Ficonegra stream mouth (Lat 40.305545°N Long 14.946089°E) is identified as a pollution source on the eastern side.
