Lom - Svobodné Heřmanice

Lom Svobodné Heřmanice is a flooded quarry formed after slate mining operations. The bathing water has consistently excellent quality with good microbiological classification based on monitoring from 2019–2022. Water transparency regularly exceeds 3 metres, and cyanobacteria populations are minimal. No significant point or diffuse pollution sources exist in the catchment area.

Water

Flooded slate quarry with surface area of 3.35 hectares and elevation of 440 metres. Primarily fed by groundwater. Catchment area measures 0.22 km². Rocky shore and rocky bottom. Beach length approximately 50 metres.

Location

Svobodné Heřmanice municipality, Sokolovská 94, postal code 793 13 Horní Benešov. A parking area has been constructed at the quarry, with an improved water entry (panels) and a jetty.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: good. Microbiological monitoring (intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli) for 2019–2022 confirms good quality. Total phosphorus levels were consistently below regulatory limits (NV č.401/2015). Monitoring discontinued for this parameter since 2012. Overall assessment: satisfactory condition.
