Loutra Aphrodites is a sandy beach located at the foot of a highland area with a relatively steep structure. Access is difficult via a small pathway. The beach is 360 metres long and situated within the Akamas peninsula SPA of the Natura 2000 network. The natural shoreline has a sandy seabed with sparse pebbles. Above the beach are catering facilities with surrounding shrubby vegetation including conifers.

Water

Coastal water body named Akamas (CY_5-C1). Average water depth is 1.5 metres, maximum depth is 3 metres. The beach is 360 metres long. The seabed consists of sandy composition with sparse pebbles.

Location

Akamas area, Pafos District, Community of Neo Chorio, Cyprus. Coordinates: 32.3484°E, 35.0560°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Toilets available through the catering facilities above the beach. Waste collection bins are present along the full length of the beach. No public facilities for public service. No sunbeds or umbrellas offered during summer. No lifeguards mentioned.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The bathing water is monitored in connection with the inland surface water body CY_2-1-2_R1, which is in good chemical and ecological condition. The coastal body to which it belongs is in good ecological condition. One isolated pollution incident was recorded during the 2007 swimming season.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Possible source of short-term pollution from malfunctioning septic systems of coastal developments. One short-term pollution incident recorded between 2008 and 2010 (25 May 2010). Risk of short-term pollution is small, with frequency of approximately once per swimming season and duration of 1–2 days.
