Xystarokampos is an extensive sandy beach located at the foot of a small hill below the central Akamas road in Cyprus. The beach is situated within the Natura 2000 SPA network (Akamas Peninsula) and features shrubby vegetation including palms and conifers. Access is relatively difficult via a small path beside the Aphrodite Hotel, where catering facilities are available on the beach. The beach is approximately 600 metres long with an average water depth of 1.6 metres and a maximum depth of 4 metres.

Location

Located in the Paphos District, in the Community of Neo Chorio, Cyprus. Access is from a small path beside the Aphrodite Hotel along the central Akamas road. Parking information is not specified.

Facilities

Toilets available at the hotel and catering facility. No public facilities for general public use. Waste collection bins are distributed along the beach, maintained by the Neo Chorio Community Council. Summer season beach services include sunbeds and umbrellas. Lifeguards and disabled access are not mentioned.

Swimming season dates are not specified. Monitoring data is available for 2008–2010 swimming seasons.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. The coastal body of water is in good ecological status. Water quality has been monitored for many years. An isolated pollution incident was observed in 2007 following heavy rainfall. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the swimming seasons 2008–2010.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Small risk of short-term pollution from malfunction of waste-water systems in coastal developments. Possible pollution sources include low-intensity agricultural runoff, septic tank seepage from coastal developments, and two small streams.
