A bathing water area located in Letojanni, Sicily, on the Tyrrhenian coast between Capo Scaletta and Torre Archirafi. The beach features low-lying sandy, gravelly, and pebbly shores with a gently sloping seafloor composed of alluvial deposits and sandy-gravelly sediments. The beach is approximately 25 to 30 metres wide. The area is used partly for free beach access and partly for bathing activities, with seasonal structures removed at the end of summer.

Coastal water body classified as coastal plains with low stability (C3). Area extends 0.480 km. Water consists of a succession of alluvial deposits overlaid by sandy-gravelly sediments.

Location

Letojanni, Sicily, province of Messina. The bathing water area lies between Capo Scaletta and Torre Archirafi, 100 metres north of the S. Filippo stream mouth. Centre coordinates: 37.893632°N, 15.324699°E.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Bathing is prohibited from 100 metres south to 100 metres north of the S. Filippo stream mouth due to discharge from the Consortium Wastewater Treatment Plant serving the municipalities of Taormina, Giardini-Naxos, and Castelmola.

Risks

Consortium wastewater treatment plant discharge located at the S. Filippo stream mouth. No cyanobacteria proliferation events reported. No harmful algal species proliferation cases identified.
