Water Quality

Water quality classification is elevated (95th and 90th percentile parameters). No specific monitoring programmes are currently active to monitor pollutant concentrations during the bathing season. One urban wastewater treatment facility serving more than 2000 population equivalents is present in the municipality of Tarquinia.

Risks

Mollusk aquaculture is identified as a source of pollution. Short-duration pollution events are still under study with an appropriate modelling approach. The area is not subject to blooms of macroalgae or potentially toxic microalgae.
