Miramare - Roncasso is a sandy beach located in Rimini, Emilia-Romagna, extending approximately 1 km with a width of 130–160 metres. The beach is unprotected by cliffs and includes a free public beach area. It functions as a high-tourism zone with numerous hotels and bathing establishments, and lifeguard services are present throughout the bathing season.

Water

Coastal marine waters in a flat alluvial zone with high stability. The bathing area extends 0.977 km. Water depth and flow rate characteristics are not specified. The area is influenced by the Fossa Roncasso drainage basin, which covers approximately 374 hectares.

Location

Located in the municipality of Rimini, in the Miramare locality, in the province of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna region. The beach stretches along the south-central coastal area.

Facilities

Fourteen bathing establishments with first-aid services, toilets including facilities for disabled persons, hot showers, absence of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and refreshment points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2019–2022). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 72 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 107 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 26 CFU/100 ml; Intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 33 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 with an exceedance of Escherichia coli limits, classified as an anomalous situation by the European Commission. Storm water discharge (white network n. 49V) covering 33.1 hectares can cause overflow directly to sea during heavy rainfall.

Risks

Heavy rainfall can trigger opening of the storm water discharge paratoia (white network n. 49V), causing excess water flow into the bathing water. The Fossa Roncasso drainage basin proximity may cause eutrophication phenomena. No sustained eutrophic phenomena caused by cyanobacteria have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton blooms or macroalgae blooms were recorded during 2019–2022, and no toxic effects from phytoplankton or macroalgae were registered.
