Mondsee is the middle lake in a chain of three lakes in the Salzkammergut region of Austria. It covers an area of 14 square kilometers with a maximum depth of 68 meters and is one of the warmest lakes in the Salzkammergut. The lake experienced severe algal blooms in the 1970s due to high nutrient loads, but water quality has improved following the installation of sewer systems around the lake shore. Occasional turbidity occurs in spring due to rapid water warming.
