Mondsee is the middle lake in a chain of three lakes (Fuschlsee and Irrsee upstream, Attersee downstream) in the Salzkammergut region. It covers an area of 14 square kilometres and reaches a maximum depth of 68 metres, making it one of the warmest lakes in the Salzkammergut. Water quality issues from nutrient overload in the 1970s have been resolved through sewerage infrastructure development around the lake shore. Occasional turbidity occurs in spring due to rapid water warming.
