Mørkholt Strand is a bathing beach approximately 250 meters long located on the north side of Vejle Fjord, about 5 kilometers east of Vejle town. The beach consists of white sand approximately 20 meters wide with relatively shallow water. Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2018–2021. The beach is monitored during the bathing season from June 1 to September 15.

Location

Located on the north side of Vejle Fjord, approximately 5 kilometers east of Vejle town. UTM zone 32, coordinates 545959 east, 6168653 north. Station number 9305, DKBWid 1139.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on 2018–2021 data). Monitoring occurs June 1 to September 15. No management measures have been undertaken because bathing water quality is excellent.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, most often occurring after heavy rainfall followed by warm periods. Signs include discolored water, foam formation, and dead animals. Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water's edge; bathing is discouraged near large amounts of washed-up seaweed due to toxin formation in decomposing seaweed and bacterial survival. Phytoplankton growth risk is considered small, highest in late summer. Short-term pollution from heavy rainfall can occur, typically lasting maximum 3 days. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
