Naturfreibad Heil is a natural lake bathing area located in an old arm of the Lippe River. The bathing water has been officially designated since at least 1992 and covers approximately 0.5 hectares with a sandy substrate. Water temperature ranges from 14.3°C to 25.4°C with an average of 19.64°C. The water body has received an excellent quality rating for four consecutive years (2020–2023).

Water

Lake (an old arm of the Lippe River). Area: 0.5 hectares. Maximum depth: 1.8 metres. Water temperature range: 14.3–25.4°C (average 19.64°C). pH range: 7.45–8.6 (average 7.98). Conductivity range: 291–462 µS/cm (average 375 µS/cm). Transparency range: 0.5–2.0 metres (average 1.4 metres). Water level corresponds with the Lippe River water level. Sandy substrate and beach. Unshratified water body.

Location

Located in the Unna district. The bathing area has approximately 420 metres of shoreline with around 300 metres of beach. Managed by Schwimmverein Bergkamen-Heil, Derner Str. 7, 44532 Lünen.

Water Quality

Excellent quality classification for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. No relevant pollution sources identified. No municipal, industrial, or domestic wastewater discharges. No contamination detected in sediments (microbiological or chemical). No sewage-related contamination known.

Risks

Medium risk of cyanobacterial blooms during extended heat periods. Medium risk of future phytoplankton mass development. Occasional bird presence with no relevant impact. Low fish stock with no relevant impact.
