Naturfreibad Wachtendonk is an artificial bathing lake located in the lowlands with an area of 1.3 hectares. The water body has a sandy and gravelly substrate with an average depth of 2.5 metres and a maximum depth of 4 metres. Water temperature ranges from 16.5°C to 23.4°C with an average of 19.8°C. The lake has been classified as an EU bathing water since 1993 and received an excellent rating every year from 2015 to 2018.

Water

Artificial lake with an area of 1.3 hectares. Average water depth 2.5 metres, maximum depth 4 metres. Water temperature maximum 23.4°C, minimum 16.5°C, average 19.8°C. Water transparency average 1.6 metres (range 0.9–2.1 metres). Water exchange time exceeds 30 days. Mesotrophic nutrient status. Substrate composition is sandy and gravelly.

Location

Wachtendonk, Wankumer Str. 10a, 47669 Wachtendonk. The bathing beach has a shoreline of 80 metres.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2015–2018). Monitoring results show no significant pollution sources. No cyanobacteria blooms observed in the last four years. Risk of future cyanobacteria mass development is low. Risk of future phytoplankton mass development is low. Macroalgae problems have not occurred.

Risks

Cercariae (duck fleas causing swimmer's dermatitis) cannot be excluded, but no relevant influence on bathing water quality has been identified so far.
