Nesthauser See is an artificial bathing lake located in Paderborn, Germany. The lake has been designated as a European bathing water since 2012 and covers an area of 7 hectares. The bathing area, known as Liegewiese Strand, has a beach section of approximately 150 metres. The lake is used both for bathing and water skiing. Water quality has been rated as excellent for four consecutive years from 2015 to 2018.

Nesthauser See is an artificial lake covering 7 hectares. The water body has a mean depth of 8 metres and a maximum depth of 10 metres. Water temperature ranges from 18.3°C to 21.3°C with a mean of 19.8°C. Water transparency ranges from 3.0 to 5.7 metres with a mean of 4.1 metres. The water exchange time is longer than 30 days. The lake substrate is sandy with areas of marl. Water level fluctuations are 0.5 metres. The water body is stratified.

Nesthauser See is located in Paderborn, Germany. The bathing area operator is Wasserski Paderborn GmbH und Co. KG, Nordhof 14, 33106 Paderborn. The sampling location is at UTM coordinates E: 477186 N: 5733422.

Water Quality

The bathing water received an excellent classification in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The water is eutrophic with a natural nutrient content level of 3. No microbiological or chemical contamination in sediments has been detected. The lake is designated as a compensation area.

Risks

No cyanobacterial blooms were observed in the four years prior to the profile. No future risk of cyanobacterial mass development was identified. No macroalgae or phytoplankton mass development risks were detected. Rainwater runoff from roofed areas, sealed surfaces, the water skiing facility, and buildings enters the lake untreated, though this is not assessed as having a relevant impact on bathing water quality.
