Nový Hrozenkov is a bathing area located on a former gravel extraction site (Balaton reservoir) in the Zlín region of the Czech Republic, at an elevation of 459 metres. The reservoir covers 11 hectares and features a gradually sloping shoreline with grass beaches and a length of 800 metres. The site receives up to 1,000 visitors per day. Water quality has been classified as unfavourable due to excessive cyanobacteria occurrence in 2010, with the water being unsuitable for bathing on one occasion that year and repeatedly unsuitable for sensitive individuals in recent years.

Water Quality

Microbiological contamination classified as excellent. Phosphorus content generally meets long-term requirements. In 2010, water was unsuitable for bathing once and repeatedly unsuitable for sensitive individuals due to elevated cyanobacteria. High cyanobacteria cell content in 2010 (several times above limit). Prior to 2010, cyanobacteria occurrence was very low. Frequent transparency limit exceedances in 2010. Elevated chlorophyll a values in 2010 but not exceeding limit. Overall monitoring assessment: unfavourable state due to excessive cyanobacteria in 2010. Diffuse pollution sources (internal): recreation activities and fish stocking (medium impact).
