Nummijärvi is a lake bathing beach located in the municipality of Kauhajoki, Finland. The beach features a sandy shore with a camping area and forest nearby. Water depth varies from 0 to 3 metres, with a sandy bottom covered by a humus layer. The beach is equipped with two changing room saunas, changing cabins, a playground, lawn area, a pier, rental boats, and a grill shelter. The lake has poor visibility with a depth of 20 centimetres and slightly acidic to neutral pH ranging from 6.4 to 7.5.

Water

Nummijärvi is a shallow humus-rich lake belonging to the Karvianjoki water system. Water depth varies from 0 to 3 metres. Visibility is approximately 20 centimetres.

Location

Located at Nummijärventie 591, 61910 Nummijärvi, in the municipality of Kauhajoki. Parking for cars and a camping area are located immediately adjacent to the beach.

Facilities

Two changing room saunas, changing cabins, playground, lawn area, pier, notice boards, rental boats, grill shelter, parking for cars, camping area nearby.

Season

15 June to 31 August. Monitoring samples are collected four times during the season, with the first sample taken before the season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality has been classified as excellent in previous bathing seasons based on monitoring results for Escherichia coli and enterococci. No administrative measures have been necessary. The lake's ecological status is rated as satisfactory. Small amounts of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are detected annually. Toxin testing conducted in summer 2019 was negative. Anabaena species was identified in 2019.

Risks

Small amounts of cyanobacteria detected annually. Windy weather can cause water mixing and increased turbidity due to the shallow nature of the lake.
