Ostesee is an inland lake located approximately 3 km north of Neuhaus near the Oste estuary and about 1.6 km from the coast, south of the Elbe estuary. The lake is the old arm of the Oste river, created in 1967 when the Oste barrage was built and the river was redirected. It serves as a fishing and bathing destination with a water ski facility and holiday park in a rural and quiet setting. The northern part of the lake, approximately 15 of 29 hectares, is part of a nature reserve and is closed to the public.
